Malaysia, 21st Jul 2025 – The 3rd APAC IPv6 Council Meeting, co-hosted by Dr. MGR Educational & Research Institute, held on July 10th and 11th, 2025, at Novotel Chennai Chamiers Road, convened over 70 participants from across the Asia-Pacific region, representing government agencies, academia, telecom giants, internet registries, and technical communities.
The two-day summit marked a significant step forward in advancing the adoption, security, and policy ecosystem of IPv6, the future of internet addressing. Organized by the APAC IPv6 Council, the event reflected its three-pronged mission: Accelerating IPv6 Deployment, Fostering Cross-Border Collaboration, and Technical and Policy Capacity Building.
Held on July 10, 2025, Day 1 focused on high-level discussions and regional collaboration. Prof. Emeritus Dr. Sureswaran Ramadass, Chairman of APAC Ipv6 Council, and Dr. Latif Ladid, Honarary Advisor of APAC IPv6 Council and President of IPv6 Forum, inaugurated the event, emphasizing multistakeholder collaboration and the critical need to accelerate IPv6 adoption in light of growing digital demand.
Dr. Devesh Tyagi, CEO of NIXI, shared India's robust IPv6 roadmap, highlighting strong public-private collaboration, large-scale IPv6 traffic routing, and ISP readiness. Special attention was given to government mandates and inter-agency training to boost adoption in both enterprise and public networks.
Mr. Anil M. Patil, Assistant Vice President – IP Platforms & Services, Network Planning and Engineering, Reliance Jio, shared Reliance Jio’s massive-scale IPv6 rollout, one of the largest in the world by user base and traffic volume. He walked the audience through the architectural decisions, routing strategies, and dual-stack deployment models used to support over 400 million mobile subscribers and extensive broadband users.
The event also featured speakers from different countries, showcasing diverse IPv6 transition models, highlighting national strategies and technical innovations:
Ms. Nguyen Thi Oanh, Deputy Head of Cooperation-Resource Management Department, NIR SIG Chair, VNNIC, Vietnam presented their bold plan for an IPv6-only national internet core. The country has made IPv6 mandatory for government portals and broadband ISPs, achieving a remarkable IPv6 traffic ratio.
Mr. Shavkat Sabirov, President, Internet Association, Kazakhstan, shared a top-down IPv6 roadmap anchored by the National Internet Association, government policy frameworks, and cooperation with regional ISPs. His presentation stressed the importance of regulatory clarity and technical incentives to drive adoption.
Mr. Ram Krishna Pariyar, Founding Vice President of npNOG, Nepal, brought a grassroots perspective, emphasizing their initiatives, local ISP engagement, and capacity-building efforts for network engineers and university students. Despite its size, Nepal’s collaborative approach has yielded measurable IPv6 progress.
Ms. Annisa Safrida, Directorate of Digital Infrastructure Strategies and Policies
Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs, Indonesia, focused on policy-led infrastructure reforms and nationwide IPv6 readiness audits. The government’s close engagement with telecom providers and academic networks was highlighted as a key to unlocking large-scale IPv6 deployments across archipelagic territories.
Renowned experts, including Dr. N. Subramanian - Executive Director of SETS, Prof Dr. Cyril Raj - Dean (Engg & Tech) of Dr. M.G.R. Educational and Research Institute University Chennai, Dr. Ramalatha Marimuthu - Director, iExplore Foundation for Sustainable Development, Dr. Satya N. Gupta, Chair of Bharath IPv6 Forum, Mr. Krishna Kumar Lahoti, Vice Chair of APAC IPv6 Council and Director of CNLABS, shared their thoughts on various aspects of IPv6 Strategy and Security Readiness.
On July 11, 2025, the event transitioned into a technical workshop, IPv6 for Management Executives, and DNSSEC for Engineers. IPv6 For Management workshop equipped decision-makers with the knowledge to understand why IPv6 is crucial, what its implications are for their business, and how to approach the transition strategically. DNSSEC for engineers led participants learn the fundamentals of DNS architecture. This hands-on day strengthened technical capacity and highlighted the importance of securing DNS infrastructure in an IPv6-enabled environment.
The Council also introduced its inaugural APAC IPv6 Fellowship Program, welcoming selected students and early-career professionals from across Asia Pacific Region. The program aims to expand in the coming years, nurturing a growing community of future-ready IPv6 advocates across the Asia-Pacific region.
All in all, the 3rd Council Meeting reaffirmed the importance of regional collaboration, policy alignment, and hands-on training in realizing a secure, scalable, and inclusive internet. As digital demands grow and IPv4 exhaustion accelerates, the APAC IPv6 Council continues to serve as a catalyst for capacity building and innovation.
